Types of assisted reproductive technology

In vitro fertilization (IVF) involves the transfer of embryos.

Here's a breakdown of the IVF process:

  1. Hormonal Stimulation: A woman is given fertility drugs to stimulate the production of multiple eggs.

  2. Egg Retrieval: Eggs are surgically removed from the ovaries.

  3. Fertilization: Eggs are fertilized with sperm in a laboratory setting.

  4. Embryo Development: The fertilized eggs, now called embryos, are allowed to develop for a few days.

  5. Embryo Transfer: One or more embryos are transferred into the woman's uterus.
