Dr. William Ritchie Is Chief Technical Officer of MBPL. His experience in the manufacture and use of "Glass Micro Tools" goes back to the mid 80's when there were no commercially available micro tools, which meant that each lab made their own tools. In fact, the Roslin Institute where Dr. Ritchie worked manufactured the equipment required to produce micro tools for the ground breaking scientific experiments at the institute. This gave Dr. Ritchie a unique understanding of not only the requirements for making these precision instruments but also their use for the experiments carried out at that time! Dr Ritchie developed a variety of micromanipulation techniques which eventually resulted in the production of Morag and Megan the first animals cloned from cells which were grown in culture but also, Dolly the first animal cloned from adult cells.
Dr. Ritchie started his career in agriculture but soon transferred to a more technical job as anaesthetist in the Roslin Institutes animal facility before developing into an experimental embryologist, gaining an Honours Degree in science along the way.
He capitalized on the scientific papers which he had contributed to by using these to form the basis for his doctorate which has the title "Developing Nuclear Transfer, Cloning and Related Technologies in Mammals". He left the Roslin Institute in 2004 and set up a company (Roslin Embryology Limited) to teach micromanipulation techniques.
